WEEK 1: LANGUAGES ARE ALIVE

Imagen
The number of languages spoken in the world is constantly changing. This occurs because they are in accordance with the world, which is in constant movement as well. Nowadays, we can find a myriad of languages that are spoken across the world, roughly 6912, without taking into account the innumerable dialectal and spoken languages and death languages. I have always been very keen on learning a widely spoken language such as Arabic or Chinese. However, today I have a predilection for learning less well-known languages like Norwegian or Danish. My interest awaken when I studied the course of Historia de la Lengua Inglesa II and the influence of other nations, languages and cultures onto the English language, along with the TV series Vikings , where the Scandinavian culture is very accurately recreated. This week I have been very much in contact with the English language. I have been reading Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf, a very chaotic structure to understand but beautifully writ...

WEEK 3: IN MY VIEW

There is a discussion that has been active for many years, and it is whether we must teach children a second language at the same time as the first one or wait for them to strengthen their mother tongue first. My parents only taught me one language (Spanish) when I was little, and now, every time I meet someone who speaks perfectly two languages because their parents taught them both languages, I feel envious. If each one of the parents speaks a different language, they should speak to their children the two of them, because it is much easier for a child to learn languages than for an adult. From my point of view, it would be a waste of time and faculties not doing it. Here I attach some links where the infinitive is perfeclty explained: https://www.ef.com/english-resources/english-grammar/infinitive/ https://learnenglish.britishcouncil.org/en/english-grammar/verbs/infinitive https://linguapress.com/grammar/infinitive.htm This week I wrote a discursive essay ...

WEEK 2: ESSAY WRITING

Those are the links to writing labs online that I have found to study and practice essay writing: http://www.lnat.ac.uk/how-to-prepare/practice-test/ https://www.aims.edu/student/online-writing-lab/college-writing.php https://www.time4writing.com/writing-essays/ When writing essays, I find it difficult getting started. Sometimes, when a topic is given to me, I have a thousand ideas of which I have to discard many of them because of the short space and time that I am given. But there are other cases in which I cannot think of any idea. This makes me lose time and it also makes me nervous. Another problem that I usually find when writing an essay is that, when I write quickly, I make mistakes in the articles and in some verbs. Sometimes I write “Laura have" or "she" when I am referring to a man. I know how to write it correctly, but I do not notice it, and sometimes I do not have time to calmly review and modify it. This week I practiced my English watching s...

THE WORLD OF LANGUAGES A huge number of languages can be found all over the world. It is worth mentioning the fact that more than one language could have been chosen when I decided to study my degree on English Phylology. Having said that, German can be a good choice inasmuch as it is the language of the future because of their constantly development and its growing presence in the European countries. A good reason is that German helps you to work in a foreign country since it is the most spoken language in some countries like Austria or Switzerland. As a matter of fact, German is a complicated language since grammar and syntax differ from the Spanish one in many aspects. Despite this, German is the first spoken language in Europe and more and more universities in Spain but also some schools are starting to teach it. On the whole, studyng German can be seen as a forward-looking project, since it can be useful in the future facing the world of work. It can be said that s...

WEEK 1: LANGUAGE

Nowadays, I speak Spanish, English and Italian, but last year I started learning Russian. Despite all the languages that can be found in the world, I would love to continue learning Russian because I had a really great time learning it in my Erasmus. It is said that is a very difficult language to learn because of its alphabet, which is completely different from ours. However, I found it easy, and next year I am going to take lessons in order to improve and get a B1 level. In my opinion, it is a language that can be learnt by anyone with patience and practice. One of the reasons why I want to learn Russian is because I would love to go and visit all the beautiful cities that this country has. I also want to learn it in order to be able to communicate myself with my boyfriend´s family, who are from Russia, and this language is the only one spoken by them. And the last and most important reason is because I love learning languages. This week I read Mrs Dalloway because I have an...
